Springfield, Ohio — The power of the Internet is once again being harnessed through a partnership between Wittenberg University's Department of Athletics and Recreation and the Office of University Communications. To ensure that interested parties throughout the world can not only tune in to hear upcoming basketball games but actually see the Tigers in action, Wittenberg will offer live video broadcasts of five upcoming men's and women's basketball games on the World Wide Web.

The second video broadcast of the 2006-07 basketball season takes place tonight as the Tiger women's basketball team hosts North Coast Athletic Conference frontrunner Denison in a key showdown. Tip-off between the Big Red, which has records of 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the NCAC, and the Tigers, who are right behind at 8-6 overall and 5-1 in the conference, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the HPER Center Arena.

Wittenberg is working with Stretch Internet, the same service provider that streams all audio broadcasts of Tiger varsity athletic events, to provide the Internet video feed. The broadcasts are available thanks to a sponsorship agreement with Brain Lumber of Springfield. Click here to access the video broadcast.

The first video broadcast of the season took place on Dec. 9 as the Tiger men's basketball team hosted then No. 1-ranked Wooster. The Tigers dropped a heartbreaking 68-65 decision in a game that was viewed by more than 350 online fans.

Wednesday's women's game will be broadcast - both audio and video - exclusively on the Internet, although the majority of their games can also be heard on the radio in the Springfield area on WUSO, 89.1-FM. The pre-game show will start at 7:15 p.m. as Josh Cohick, class of 2007 from Erie, Pa., will handle all of the on-air duties.

In addition to the women's basketball showdown in Springfield, the Wittenberg men's basketball team is heading to Delaware, Ohio, for a key NCAC game against Ohio Wesleyan. Tip-off for that game between the sixth-ranked Tigers, who are 13-2 overall and 5-1 in the NCAC, and the Battling Bishops, who records of 10-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The pre-game show is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m. with WUSO Adviser Scott Leo handling the on-air broadcast duties.

Upcoming basketball games scheduled for video broadcasts include a Feb. 3 women's game against Allegheny, a Feb. 7 men's game against Ohio Wesleyan, a Feb. 10 women's game against Ohio Wesleyan and a Feb. 14 men's game against Wabash.
