St. Norbert def. Olivet, 70-63 Men's Consolation Game

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The St. Norbert Green Knights got hot at the right time, hitting 54 percent of their shots in the second half, including 6-of-12 three-pointers, to capture a hard-fought 70-63 win over Olivet in the consolation game of the 2005 Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic.

St. Norbert, which lost to Wittenberg 60-36 in Thursday's semifinals, improved to 2-7 on the season. Olivet, which lost 71-63 to Marian in the semifinals, dropped to 4-7 overall.

The Green Knights trailed for much of the first half and entered the locker room at halftime facing a 34-29 deficit. After shooting below 30 percent against Wittenberg, St. Norbert hit 40 percent in the first half, but that included a woeful 2-of-10 from three-point range. Olivet, on the other hand, took advantage of nine St. Norbert turnovers and hit 43 percent from the field to take the five-point lead.

A three-pointer by Nathan Zepnick at the 13:24 mark of the second half earned the Green Knights a tie, and a 10-4 burst following a 50-50 tie, broken by a Ryan Lallensack three-pointer at 8:40, gave St. Norbert a lead they would not relinquish. The Green Knights hit four free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the victory.

Four St. Norbert starters finished in double figures offensively, led by Eric Bieniasz with 17 points. John Suberlak added 15 points and Lallensack and Zepnick chipped in with 13 tallies apiece. Zepnick added nine rebounds to lead both teams and Josh Jaeger added eight boards in 33 quality minutes.

Olivet picked up 21 points and five rebounds off the bench from Jeff Cooper, including a 5-of-9 performance from three-point range. Gerald Dozie, coming off a 28-point, 18-rebound showing in the semifinals, added 14 points and eight boards.
