The Baldwin Wallace University Men Beat Carnegie-Mellon (Pa.), 79-71, to Advance to Second Round of NCAA Division III Tournament

BEREA, OHIO �Junior forward Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) scored a game-high 25 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked five shots as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Carnegie-Mellon (Pa.) University, 79-71, tonight (March 3) in the Wittenberg University HPER Center in Springfield and now advance to play the winner of the host Wittenberg versus Lake Erie College game in the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament on Saturday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. in Springfield

With its win, BW improves to 25-4 overall while Carnegie-Mellon ends its season at 20-6 overall.

In the first half, Carnegie-Mellon jumped out to an early 10-7 lead following a three-pointer by sophomore guard Geoff Kozak with 15:50 left in the first half.  BW responded with a 25-10 run and opened up its largest lead of the half at 12 points at 32-20 with 5:05 left when sophomore guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) canned a three-pointer.  The Yellow Jackets extended the lead to as many as 16 points at 40-24 with 1:50 remaining on a jumper by Davis. The Jackets' also led at halftime, 40-28.

In the second half, Carnegie-Mellon cut into the Yellow Jacket advantage and got as close as three points at 74-71 with 1:03 left in the game but a three-pointer by senior guard Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn) and a pair of Schuler foul shots in the final minute sealed the win.

In addition to Davis for BW, Schuler had 16 points and Aufmuth 14.  Carnegie-Mellon was led by senior forward Clayton Barlow-Wilcox with 17 points and 11 rebounds, senior forward Marques Johnson with 17 points, senior guard A.J. Straub had 13 points and senior forward Nate Maurer had 11 points.
