Men's Basketball Wins With Ease At Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio - For a third straight game, the Wittenberg University Tigers came out of the locker room with determination and put away a North Coast Athletic Conference rival with ease. This time the victim was Hiram College, hosts for a 91-51 Wittenberg victory.

The Tigers claimed an early lead and then destroyed Hiram, which fell to 2-13 overall and 0-6 in the NCAC, with a 26-point run, stretching a 7-4 lead to 33-4 with a little more than six minutes remaining in the first half. For the game, the Tigers shot better than 50 percent from the floor and better than 70 percent from the free throw line, and they did their usual work on the boards, outrebounding the Terriers 46-24.

As usual, the Tiger offense was deep and balanced as five players finished in double figures in scoring. Junior forward/center B.J. Harris showed the way with 17 points and eight rebounds, junior forward Kevin Longley finished with 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting and seven rebounds, freshman forward Andy Bucheit chipped in with 12 points off the bench and four boards, senior forward Chad Mossing wound up with 11 points and a season-high five rebounds, and sophomore point guard Mark Borland added 10 points.

The win improved Wittenberg to 13-2 overall and 6-0 in the NCAC. Next up for the Tigers is a crucial conference home game against Ohio Wesleyan on at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The games can be heard on WBLY 1600 AM in Springfield or via the Internet on Wittenberg's Web site.
