Wittenberg Wins Kiwanis Tournament Over Marian

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg University Tigers once again played the role of rude hosts, winning their own tournament for the 17th time in 19 years. This time, the championship game victim was Marian College by the narrowest of margins, 65-62. The win was the ninth straight for Wittenberg and improved the 13th ranked Tigers to 10-1 overall in the 2001-02 campaign.

Wittenberg was paced in the game by B.J. Harris, who put together a second straight double-double effort in earning tournament MVP honors. Harris finished with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor and a game-high 11 rebounds. He was backed by Chad Mossing, who hit for 10 points and added three rebounds and three assists to the team's effort.

Marian, which fell to 9-4 overall, had three players hit for double-figures but were outrebounded 41-28 and shot just 29 percent on 27 three-point attempts. Leading the way was All-Tournament team selection James Gardner, who slashed his way to 18 points and six rebounds, while Andy Emberton hit four three-pointers and finished with 14 points off the bench.
