Tigers Chew Up Big Red at Home

Springfield, OH- The Tigers returned to Edwards Maurer Field for their final home game of the regular season to take on the Big Red of Denison. The Red & White came off of a 1-0 win against Allegheny in their senior day and looked to improve their conference record to 4-3 with a chance in contending in the NCAC tournament later on in November. Denison who is ranked number two in the NCAC would prove to be a challenge for the Tigers but Wittenberg was able to control the home advantage and take down the Big Red with a score of 3-2.

Denison was able to get on the board first in the first quarter but the Tigers were able to answer back in the second with two goals. Wittenberg's first goal of the game came from a penalty corner with Sofi Hess launching the ball in to the arc and have Allison Ormsby tip the ball into the back of the cage. The Red & White were able to have a similar play occur moments later in the second quarter with Katie Webber tipping the ball in for a goal off of Hess. Wittenberg headed into the half with a 2-1 lead over the Big Red.

Coming into the second half, Denison was able to put one more point on the board before Wittenberg got their final goal of the game. The Tigers went into the fourth quarter tied 2-2 before Regan Mazzulli was able to get through Big Red defense and get the Tigers game winning goal with an assist from Ormsby.

Wittenberg currently stands at number four in the conference with 4 wins and 3 losses in conference play and an 10-7 overall record.

NCAC Stats Leaders- Allison Ormsby is currently tied number one in the NCAC for goals on the season with 11 and tied for number two in the NCAC for points with 25 this season. Right behind Ormsby in tied in sixth is Regan Mazzulli with eight goals. Mazzulli is also in the top ten for points this season, at number six with 18. Katie Webber sits just outside the top ten in goals with five on the season and for points with 13. Caroline Ford is tied at number four in the conference for assists with four on the season. Behind Ford in assists is Webber tied at number ten with three.

On the defensive side, Shannon Csordos is tied at number seven in the NCAC for defensive saves while Emma Hurguy currently ranks number two in NCAC goalie leaders for saves with 91 and number three for saves per game averaging 5.69 and a .805 save percentage per game (number five for save percentage).

NCAA Stats Leaders- Emma Hurguy currently stands at number seventeen in Division III for save percentage with the NCAC being represented in the top twenty by four universities.

The Tigers will return to action on Saturday against Earlham on the road in their final regular season game of the year. Game time is set for 12PM.
