Ormsby Takes Overtime Win for Tigers

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg was back on Edwards-Maurer field today for a match-up against the Fighting Scots of Wooster. The Tigers, who were coming off of a 6-0 win over Transylvania looked for another home win for their Alumni Day. The Red & White have seen Wooster in action 72 times in program history, leading a very close series 36-35-1 and a 3-1 record against the Fighting Scots the past three years. After an exciting overtime competition and 3-2 score, the Tigers were able to start a two-game win streak and continue to lead the series over Wooster.

The Tigers stepped on the field to an evenly matched Wooster team, going back-and-forth for the first quarter. Junior, Regan Mazzulli was able to put the first point on the board in the second quarter with an assist from Lilye Morrison. Wooster was able to answer back and Wittenberg headed into halftime with a tied 1-1 score. The third quarter would be deadlocked with no goals but the Tigers were able to draw three penalty corners and get four shots off on goal.

The fourth quarter resembled the second quarter, with Regan Mazzulli scoring her second goal of the game unassisted to take the lead 2-1. Once again Wooster was able to answer back and the Red & White headed into overtime with a 2-2 score.

Wittenberg was able to get a break-away down the midfield into scoring territory with Katie Webber launching a pass to Allison Ormsby who was able to make a diving play to score her first goal of the game and take the 3-2 win.

In goal for the Tigers was junior Emma Hurguy, who saw 13 shots on the day with 11 saves. Hurguy faced the most shots in the second quarter and was able to make eight of her saves against the Fighting Scots. Hurguy improves her record in goal to 6-3.

NCAC Stats Leaders- Allison Ormsby is tied at third for goals in the conference with five, while Regan Mazzulli and Katie Webber are both sitting at number eight with four goals on the season. Mazzulli and Ormsby are also in the top ten for assists, tied at third with two each.

Allison Ormsby sits at number three for points in the conference with a total of 12 and Regan Mazzulli is just behind in fifth with 10 points. Katie Webber makes the top ten for points with nine on the season. Emma Hurguy currently ranks number three in NCAC goalie leaders for saves with 34 and number eight for saves per game with 3.78.

NCAA Stats- Freshman, Shannon Csordos, is tied for 39th in Division III for defensive saves with two. (All NCAC and NCAA statistics are based prior to tonight's match-up against Wooster)

The Tigers will look for redemption against the College of Wooster in Wooster, OH on the 5th at 7PM.
