Wittenberg Field Hockey Advances To NCAC Tournament Finals

Gambier, Ohio – The Wittenberg field hockey team advances to the NCAC Tournament finals with a 2-1 win over Kenyon. After the Ladies took the lead in the 13th minute, scoring their only goal of the game. The Dutch duo of Veerle Van der Plas and Channa Visseren would connect for the Tigers first goal in the 25th minute. As Visseren tallied her 15th goal of the season, and Van der Plas her second assist. The Tigers return to the finals of the NCAC Tournament for the first time since 2010, after making an appearance in the semifinals in past three consecutive seasons. Wittenberg holds a 3-2 record all-time in NCAC Championship games, falling in their last appearance to Wooster 4-3.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • Wittenberg took the lead over Kenyon in the 40th minute of action when Riley Trexler followed up the initial Blaine Donnelly shot. Trexler put away her sixth goal of the season to give the Tigers the 2-1 advantage.
  • Wittenberg pressured the Kenyon defense from the start, leading the shot count 19-10 on the afternoon and doubling the Ladies open looks in the second half.
  • The Wittenberg defense was stout from start to finish as keeper Allie Purvis recorded three saves in a complete game in the cage for the Tigers.
