Donnelly's Hat-Trick Leads Tigers Past Battling Bishops

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg field hockey put on an offensive show on Wednesday night against Ohio Wesleyan, as the Tigers exploded for six goals to move to 10-8, 8-6 in 2016. The Tigers were lead by Blaine Donnelly who recorded a hat-trick in the first half for Wittenberg.  Donnelly's hat-trick gives the sophomore 12 goals in 2016, three behind Riley Trexler who leads the Tigers with 15. Wittenberg dominated the day, sending four shots into the cage in the first half, and two more in the second half.

MATCH BREAKDOWN

  • Two of Donnelly's three first half goals were off of assists, as Maddie Goelz and Puck van Liebergen notched points on the scoring plays.  
  • Van Liebergen recorded the fourth goal of the first half for the Tigers in the 26th minute, as the Tigers took a 4-1 lead into halftime.
  • In the second half, Audrey Coler recorded an unassisted goal in the 47th minute to put the Tigers up 5-1.
  • Goelz recorded her second assist of the night as Fleur Vaandrager sent a screaming shot from the top of the circle into the back of the cage to put the Tigers up 6-1.

  • Josefien van den Berg and Allie Purvis split the 70 minutes in net for the Tigers, combining for three saves in the NCAC victory.
  • The Tigers outshot the Battling Bishops 20-7 in the match, as Coler paced the Tigers with four shots on goal.
