Trexler's Hat-Trick Lifts Tigers Over Battling Bishops

DELAWARE, Oho—After being named the NCAC Field Hockey Player of the week, junior Riley Trexler held true to the accolade, recording a hat-trick in a 5-1 conference victory over Ohio Wesleyan University on a rainy Wednesday night. With the victory, the Tigers improve to 4-2 in NCAC play and 6-3 overall in 2016. The Tigers have won three straight NCAC matches, downing Wooster, Oberlin and OWU. Wittenberg was in control for the entire match on Wednesday, producing a season high 40 shots in the victory. 

MATCH BREAKDOWN

  • Trexler got the Tigers on the board early in the match, taking a Brighid Kortyna pass to the corner of the cage for a goal.
  • After entering halftime tied at 1-1, Wittenberg rattled off four unanswered second half goals to down the Battling Bishops on their own turf.
  • Trexler added two more second half goals, as Maddie Goelz assisted on her third and final goal, but it was Blaine Donnelly and Paige Scharfenberger who put the game out of reach for the Battling Bishops.
