Tiger's Offense Fires on All Cylinders in 6-1 Victory

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Taking a break from NCAC play, Wittenberg field hockey welcomed Concordia University of Wisconsin to Springfield for a Sunday morning tilt at Edwards-Maurer Field.  With the rich tradition of Tiger Field Hockey all around Wittenberg, the home team welcomed the Concordia Falcons on Sunday, a team that added field hockey in 2015. Wittenberg was on the attack for a majority of the match, holding the falcons to just two shots on the day. At the final horn, Wittenberg downed Concordia 6-1 behind three Riley Trexler goals. Wittenberg shifts their focus back to NCAC conference play, as the Tigers travel to Denison on Tuesday to take on the Big Red.

GAME BREAKDOWN

  • Wittenberg notched five unanswered first half goals on Sunday, as Blaine Donnelly got the scoring started for the Tigers 12:44 seconds into the game.
  • Before the Falcons could mount an offensive set, Audrey Coler swiftly maneuvered her way through the teeth of the defense to skip a shot right past the Falcons goalie to go up 2-0.
  • The next two Tiger goals were sent home by Trexler, who would go on to pick up her third and final goal of the match in the second half.
  • Maddie Goelz netter her first goal of the young season for the Tigers, as the team took a commanding 5-0 lead into halftime.
  • Wittenberg allowed one lone goal off of a deflection in the second half, but it was Allie Purvis who logged all 70 minutes in net, earning her first win as a Tiger.

KEY STATS

  • Wittenberg dominated every offensive statistic, producing 21 shots as a unit to Concordia's two.
  • The Tiger offense also capitalized on penalty corners, taking eight opportunities to put the pressure on the Falcon defense.
  • Donnelly and Trexler paced Wittenberg's offense, both finishing the match with four shots on goal.
