SPRINGFIELD, Ohio— The Great Lakes Invitational hosted by Wittenberg came to a close as the Tigers faced off against Sewanee on Sunday afternoon at Edwards-Maurer Field.

Wittenberg's field hockey team came out on top in the match, beating out Sewanee 4-2. Key goals came off of the sticks of sophomore Blaine Donnelly and junior Riley Trexler, as the pair recorded two goals apiece.

The Tiger defense stood firm in the second half, after allowing two goals in the first to leave Sewanee with the lead. Josefien van den Berg made her first appearance in goal for Wittenberg, recording four saves and allowing only one goal.

"We are just looking to get better with every game," said Kelley Hubbell, head coach of Wittenberg's field hockey team.

"We've seen improvement from our last game. The sky is the limit in my eyes."

A total five teams came out to participate in the invitational, including; The College of Wooster, Kenyon College, University of the South (Sewanee), Centre College, and Wittenberg.

"Not only is it good for us to see our conference opponents play, but also the competition of our region as a whole," continued Hubbell.

Wittenberg's performance this weekend could result in better regional ranking later down the road, not to mention a better conference standing too.

"It takes the whole team to accomplish the goals we set for this season, we've seen improvement from our last game. The sky is the limit in my eyes."
