Tigers Fall To Washington & Lee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Wittenberg Tigers hit the road for the first time in the 2015 season, opening a two-day visit to Sewanee with a 3-1 neutral site loss to Washington & Lee.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 0-2 on the season. The southern swing continues on Sunday with a game against the host team.

Wittenberg was outshot in the game 32-11, including a whopping 21-2 margin in the first half. Over the course of the first 35 minutes, the Generals built a 2-0 lead after scoring goals in the eighth and 11th minutes.

Washington & Lee put the game out of reach in the 59th minute, although Wittenberg managed to respond at the 60:56 mark on the first goal of the season by sophomore Macenzie Reed (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame). Junior Sarah Jones (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) picked up the assist on the scoring play.

Sophomore Brighid Kortyna (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland), sophomore Riley Trexler (Louisville, Ky./Atherton) and senior Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) each finished with two shots in the game to lead Wittenberg's offense. At the other end of the field, junior Sarah Brownell (Oconomowoc, Wis./University Lake School) was credited with six saves in just 10 minutes of action in goal before giving way to junior Laura Jansing (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), who made nine saves.
