Tigers Unable To Rally From Early Deficit In 4-1 Loss At Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers battled Denison to a 1-1 draw over the course of the last 52 minutes of the game. Unfortunately for the visitors, the Big Red built an insurmountable three-goal in the opening 17:37.

Denison completed the season sweep of Wittenberg with a 4-1 win, improving to 7-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). The Tigers fell to 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the league, heading into a crucial weekend with a pair of home NCAC contests against Wooster and Oberlin.

Denison opened the scoring at the 10:02 mark, and then broke the game open with two goals in a span of just 1:22. Wittenberg finally came up with an answer in the 66th minute as senior Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) after a penalty corner. The assist went to senior Kelly McLean (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook South).

The Big Red re-established the three-goal cushion with a score with just 1:12 left on the clock.

Denison held a 14-11 advantage in shots in the game, although the Tigers won that battle by a 7-4 margin over the final 35 minutes. Both teams were awarded eight penalty corners in the game.

Senior Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led Wittenberg with four shots in the game, while senior Kim Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) added a pair of attempts on frame. At the other end of the field, sophomore Laura Jansing (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) came up with six saves in 53 minutes of action between the pipes.
