GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Wittenberg field hockey team traveled to the Hoosier State to play 16th-ranked DePauw, and absorbed a 6-2 loss on a frigid fall day.

Playing in temperatures only just about 40 degrees, the visiting Tigers moved to 5-6 overall and 4-3 in the competitive North Coast Athletic Conference.

DePauw built a substantial 3-0 lead in the first half, but Wittenberg answered with two goals in the second half.

Senior Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) scored an unassisted goal in the 45th minute, her fourth of the year. Then, in the 63rd minute, freshman Maddie Goelz (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) scored her first collegiate goal in unassisted fashion.

Senior Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the team with four shots, and four other players had one each, including Loofbourrow, Goelz, junior Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshman Carlijn van den Berg (Zwolle, The Netherlands/Thorbecke).

The Tigers continue a demanding two-game road trip at Denison on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 4:30 p.m.
