Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University’s field hockey team has been recognized for tremendous academic performance during the fall 2014 semester with an NCAA Division III National Academic Team Award from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

The NCAA Division III National Academic Team Award is presented annually to programs that post a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The Tigers posted one of the best team grade point averages in the nation for the fall 2014 semester, finishing at a sparkling 3.38 GPA.

“Earning this NFHCA team academic award is one of our goals every season, and earning this recognition is yet another reason I am so proud of our field hockey family,” said Head Coach Kelley Hubbell, who has guided the Tigers to a 47-47 record in five seasons at the helm. “This team award recognizes the hard work of all of our student-athletes and their commitment to making this program competitive on and off the turf. I am fortunate to coach such a bright and motivated group.”

Wittenberg concluded the 2014 season with records of 9-11 overall and 7-7 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Five Tigers earned All-NCAC honors and two gained All-Great Lakes Region awards following the season.
