Slow Start Leads To 6-1 NCAC Loss To Kenyon

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies scored just three minutes into the game and built on that momentum for a 6-1 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory at Wittenberg.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the league. Kenyon improved to 5-3, but more importantly the Ladies moved ahead of Wittenberg in the NCAC standings at 3-1. 

Kenyon scored goals in the fourth minute, 17th minute, 25th minute and 30th minute to build an insurmountable lead by halftime. The Ladies added two goals in the early going of the second half as well before Wittenberg broke through with a goal by sophomore Andrea Mattingly (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) at the 48:37 mark.

Junior Casey Fry (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) led Wittenberg with four shots in the game, while freshman Eva van Dijkman (Den Haag, Netherlands/Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet) directed three shots in the direction of the Kenyon goal. At the other end, freshman goalkeeper Laura Jansing (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) was credited with six saves. 

Kenyon held a 16-12 advantage in shots in the game, including a 14-5 edge in the first half. The Tigers held a 5-3 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
