Denison Takes Afternoon Match From Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg field hockey team fell to rival Denison on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 4-0, moving to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.

The Big Red got on the board for the first time in the 16th minute, and the game stayed close through the rest of the first half as Wittenberg freshman goalkeeper Sarah Brownell (Ocnomowoc, Wis./University Lake School) made five saves.

In the second half, Denison added three goals to put the match out of reach of the Tigers. Brownell finished the game with 12 total saves against four goals allowed.

Leading the Wittenberg offense, junior Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) shot twice, while sophomore Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), junior Kim Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) and junior Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) each shot once.

The Tigers continue NCAC action with a Noon match versus Kenyon College on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Edwards-Maurer Field in Springfield.
