BETHANY, W.Va. – The Wittenberg Tigers made their first road trip of the 2013 season a winning one with a 5-0 whitewashing of Bethany.

The win moved the Tigers to 1-2 on the young season, while Bethany fell to 0-2.

Freshman Eva van Dijkman (Den Haag, Netherlands/Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet) got the Tigers on the board first with an unassisted goal at the 22:12 mark of the first half. That was followed by junior Kim Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) with a score off a feed from junior Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) to make it 2-0 going into the locker room at intermission.

In the second half, sophomore Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) tallied twice, both off assists from Loofbourrow. Freshman Samantha Diehm (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) rounded out the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 52nd minute.

Wittenberg held a commanding 25-4 advantage in shots, in addition to a 12-1 lead in penalty corner opportunities. As a result, freshman goalkeeper Laura Jansing (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) was forced into just one save in the game.

Loofbourrow led the Tigers with six shots, while her sister Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) and Vanerstrom were right behind with five each.

The road trip concludes at Washington & Jefferson on Sunday, Sept. 8.
