SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers fell behind quickly and were unable to bounce back against Centre in a season-opening 4-0 loss.

The Colonels jumped on top just 7:38 into the contest on a goal by Chelsea Klein. Centre added two more goals by the 23-minute mark to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. Centre added one more goal just 2:28 into the second half to round out the scoring.

The freshman goalkeeping tandem of Laura Jansing (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and Sarah Brownell (Ocnomowoc, Wis./University Lake School) combined to make eight saves in the game, with each player seeing action for 35 minutes. Centre held a 17-7 advantage in shots for the game overall.

Wittenberg's seven shots were distributed amongst four different players. Freshman Alessandra Margello (Powell, Ohio/Watterson), sophomore Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and junior Kim Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) each were credited with two shots, while junior Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) added one attempt.

The Tigers have no time to rest following the defeat, as they are set to square off against nationally ranked Lynchburg at 2 p.m. Saturday.
