Tigers Capture NCAC Win Over Oberlin, 3-1

OBERLIN, Ohio – The youthful Wittenberg field hockey team took a step forward with a 3-1 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory at Oberlin.

The win snapped a five-game skid for the Tigers and moved Wittenberg to 3-11 overall and 3-8 in the NCAC. Oberlin, which lost for the second time this season to the Tigers, dropped to 3-9 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

Wittenberg narrowly outshot the host Yeowomen 14-12, but the Tigers made three of their attempts on goal in the first 47 minutes count. It started with a tally by sophomore Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) in the 18th minute, and she made the score 2-0 at halftime with her second goal of the game in the 30th minute, this off a feed from sophomore Audrey Phibbs (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont).

Wittenberg put the game out of reach with a goal by senior Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) in the 47th minute. Oberlin, which held a commanding 16-6 advantage in penalty corners, responded with its lone score of the game in the 57th minute.

Defensively, the Tigers were sparked by junior goalkeeper Alie Marousek (Pittsburgh, Pa./Portsmouth (NH)), who was credited with four saves in the win. Oberlin's two goalkeepers combined to make nine saves.
