DePauw Claims Season Series With 6-0 Win Over Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg field hockey team fell short of DePauw University by a 6-0 final margin on Wednesday at Edwards-Maurer Field. The loss drops Wittenberg to 2-9 overall and 2-6 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

With the victory, DePauw claims a season sweep following a 6-0 decision in Greencastle, Ind., on Sept. 5, but Wittenberg continues to maintain a steep advantage in the all-time series at 20-11-3.

DePauw opened the scoring in the eighth minute and by halftime had built a 4-0 lead.

Sophomore forward/midfielder Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the Tiger offense with three shots, while senior midfielder Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and sophomore midfielder Kim Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard) each added one.

Junior goalkeeper Alie Marousek (Pittsburgh, Pa./Portsmouth (NH)) made 12 saves in 47 minutes in goal, and was relieved by junior Jessica Jensen (Hartland, Wisc./Arrowhead), who made three saves, including one on a penalty stroke in the 63rd minute, and was not scored upon in 23 minutes.

Wittenberg continues NCAC competition on Saturday, Oct. 6, with a 1 p.m. match at Wooster.

Wittenberg field hockey alumnae are invited to participate in the Alumni Game as part of Homecoming Weekend on Sunday, Oct. 7, either on the field or in the stands.
