DELAWARE, Ohio – In their third overtime game of the season, Wittenberg field hockey played Ohio Wesleyan strong all the way but the Battling Bishops found their way to the cage in the extra period to hand the Tigers a 2-1 loss.

The Tigers fall to 2-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and 2-8 overall.

The overtime showdown followed 70 minutes of even action, featuring 12 shots for Ohio Wesleyan and 10 for Wittenberg in regulation play.

The Battling Bishops needed just one shot in overtime, and it came just 1:51 after the 15-minute, golden-goal period began, unassisted off the stick of OWU's Lauren Bailey.

Prior to overtime, the Tigers and Bishops battled through a scoreless first half before each team scored once in the second half. Ohio Wesleyan opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, and Wittenberg answered shortly thereafter with a 53rd minute strike by sophomore forward Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard), assisted by senior midfielder Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill).

Freshman forward Tiffany McKenna (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere) paced the Tiger offense with four shots, while sophomore forward/midfielder Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and sophomore midfielder Casey Fry (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) each had two and Morrissey shot once.

Tiger junior goalkeeper Alie Marousek (Pittsburgh, Pa./Portsmouth (NH)) made three saves against two goals allowed.

Wittenberg continues the NCAC campaign with a midweek contest at home versus DePauw, beginning at 5 p.m. at Edwards-Maurer Field on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Follow the action from the Battle of the Tigers with live video, audio and stats on the Tiger Sports Network.
