SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – In the 2012 home opener, the Wittenberg University field hockey team fell to visiting Wooster by a 4-1 final margin, moving to 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

The Fighting Scots built a 3-0 lead by the time Wittenberg could get on the board late in the second half. Wooster scored once in the first half and twice more in the second half before freshman Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) found sophomore Audrey Phibbs (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) for the Tigers' goal.

Wooster tacked on one more goal in the final seconds to establish the final difference, but it may have been larger if not for two defensive saves by junior Mallory Skrobot (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson) in the waning minutes.

Junior goalkeeper Jessica Jensen (Hartland, Wisc./Arrowhead) made six saves in front of the cage but faced 16 Wooster shots, including 10 on goal.

The Tigers head to Earlham on Tuesday, Sept. 11, in search of their first NCAC victory of the season in a 5 p.m. match.
