Seven Tigers Earn NFHCA Academic Awards

Springfield, Ohio – Seven Wittenberg University field hockey student-athletes have been recognized for their performance in the classroom by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), led by freshman Andrea Mattingly (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy), who was furthered honored as a Scholar of Distinction.

The accolades start with senior Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill), junior Mallory Skrobot (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson), sophomore Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), sophomore Kim Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard), sophomore Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard), freshman Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and Mattingly, all of whom were selected to the NFHCA National Academic Squad. Student-athletes who earned a 3.3 grade point average or better through the first semester of the 2012-13 school year were eligible to receive the honor.

Mattingly was additionally named a Scholar of Distinction in recognition of her nearly perfect performance in the classroom. Student-athletes are eligible for the Scholar of Distinction honor by posting a grade point average of 3.9 or higher.

Wittenberg concluded the 2012 season with records of 6-12 overall and 5-9 in the NCAC after winning four of its final five games. The Tigers hope to carry that momentum into the 2013 season, when Head Coach Kelley Hubbell expects to welcome 18 letterwinners back to the roster, including four of the five players who finished with at least 10 points a year ago and both goalkeepers.
