DELAWARE, Ohio — The Wittenberg field hockey team earned a sweep of the season series with Ohio Wesleyan on an overtime 2-1 win on the road Thursday night. The Tigers improved to 6-6 overall but more importantly moved above .500 at 5-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

The Tigers, now two-thirds of the way through their NCAC schedule, are currently slotted fourth in the league standings, a half game ahead of Kenyon (4-4).

Wittenberg took a 2-0 win off of Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 17, in Springfield and secured the series sweep Thursday night with a goal from seniorElizabeth Dwyer (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue) 4:03 into overtime.

Dwyer, who leads the Tigers in scoring with 13 goals on the season, was also responsible for putting the Tigers up 1-0 in the first half thanks to an assist from freshman Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) in the 20th minute.

Wittenberg registered 22 shots in the match against just 10 from the Battling Bishops, while Ohio Wesleyan held an 11-8 edge in penalty corners.

Dwyer led the Tigers with shots, followed by freshmen Audrey Phibbs (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) and Casey Fry (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea), who each took four shots.

Wittenberg returns home to face Oberlin on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. at Edwards-Maurer Field. Earlier this season, the Yeowomen handed the Tigers their only overtime loss in three such games in a 4-3 decision at Oberlin on Sept. 18. The Tiger Sports Network will feature live statistics and audio/video as Wittenberg attempts to even the season series.
