Tigers' Last Long Homestand Starts With Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Wittenberg field hockey started a six-game, regular season-ending homestand on Sunday with a 5-1 win over Oberlin at Edwards-Maurer Field. The Tigers evened the season series with the Yeowomen and moved to 7-6 overall and 6-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Senior Elizabeth Dwyer (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue)again led the way, picking up two goals to extend her team-leading season total to 15. She also picked up her fourth assist when she passed away from a goalkeeper tackle to wide-open freshman Beth Warning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame).

Also scoring goals for the Tigers were junior Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and freshman Casey Fry (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea), who picked up her first collegiate goal on a second-half penalty stroke.

Wittenberg outshot Oberlin by a 32-11 tally, forcing the visitors into 17 saves while senior goalkeeper Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) knocked down six Oberlin attempts.

The Tigers' homestand continues with a Tuesday night showdown against NCAC rival Denison at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 11. The Tiger Sports Network will be there to provide live statistics and audio and video.
