Tigers Bounce Back In Big Way With 10-0 Whitewashing Of Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, Va. — The Wittenberg Tigers bounced back from a disappointing season opener with a dominating 10-0 win against host Sweet Briar. The win was the first in the Wittenberg career of first-year Head Coach Kelley Hubbell.

The win evened the Tigers' record on the young season at 1-1. They return home to square off against Washington & Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8.

This one was never in doubt as the Tigers blitzed the host team for six unanswered goals in the first half. Wittenberg poured in another four goals over the final 35 minutes, while freshman goalkeeper Jessica Jensen (Hartland, Wisc./Arrowhead) was not forced into making a single save. Junior netminder Jenny Schaafsma (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) made one save in the first half.

Senior Boo Vernon (Lake Bluff, Ill./Cushing Academy) and junior Elizabeth Dwyer (St. Louis, Mo./LaDue) led the way offensively with three goals and two assists apiece. Junior Taylor Dawley (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) and senior Kelley Herde (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) added one goal and one assist each. By game's end, seven different Tigers had contributed either a goal or assist to the Wittenberg attack.
