Tigers Rally For Win At Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — The Wittenberg Tigers overcame the odds at Lindenwood, claiming a 3-2 non-conference road victory on the strength of two goals in a five-minute span late in the second half.

The win moved the Tigers to 4-2 on the season, heading into an extended stretch of North Coast Athletic Conference games. Lindenwood dropped to 2-4.

Wittenberg struck first on an unassisted goal by senior Boo Vernon (Lake Bluff, Ill./Cushing Academy) in the 22nd minute. Lindenwood responded with a goal with no time remaining on the clock in the first half off a penalty corner, and then briefly took the lead on a goal in the 44th minute. But junior Elizabeth Dwyer (St. Louis, Mo./LaDue) tied the game at the 55:54 mark with an unassisted goal, and Vernon banged home the game-winner off a feed from sophomore Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) at the 59:30 mark.

Junior goalkeeper Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) had a fine game between the pipes, stopping nine Lindenwood shots and turning away seven of Lindenwood's eight penalty corner opportunities.
