Tigers Bounce Back With 6-0 Win Over Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers made the long trip to Oberlin a winning one with a dominating 6-0 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory over the Yeowomen.

The Tigers improved to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC, heading into a key conference showdown at fellow contender Denison on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Oberlin is winless at 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the NCAC.

Wittenberg wasted no time, taking the lead just 14 seconds into the game on a goal by freshman Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Co./Smoky Hill) on a feed from sophomore Elizabeth Dwyer (St. Louis, Mo./LaDue). By halftime, the Tigers had tacked on two more as Dwyer banged home an unassisted goal off a rebound and junior Tori Casanta (Mason, Ohio/Cor Jesu) added a score off a feed from Dwyer.

The second half featured more of the same as junior Boo Vernon (Lake Bluff, Ill./Cushing Academy) found the back of the cage after a pass from Dwyer, followed by Dwyer's fifth point of the game, a goal off a feed from junior Meredith Price (Highland Park, Ill./North Shore Country Day), and a tally by Price off a feed from junior Kelley Herde (Louisville, Ky./Assumption).

Wittenberg outshot Oberlin 27-4 in the game and held a 14-6 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) recorded her second shutout of the season with two saves.
