Wittenberg Bounces Back With Big Win Over Earlham

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers got back on the winning track on Wednesday with a strong showing against the Earlham Quakers, tallying four goals in the second half to pull away with a 5-1 victory.

Seven minutes in, sophomore forward Tori Casanta (Mason, Ohio/Cor Jesu Academy) broke the ice by firing in a rebound after the Tigers earned a panalty corner. Sophomore forward Hannah Scheckelhoff (Blacklick, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) recorded the assist on the Casanta goal. However, right before halftime, the Quakers leveled the match and the two sides headed into intermission with a 1-1 deadlock.

Out of the break, it was all Tigers, as they pounded home four goals, including three more from Casanta, which brings her total up to 15 for the year. Sophomore forward Boo Vernon (Lake Bluff, Ill./Cushing Academy) also got into the act, as she scored the game-winner six minutes into the second stanza. Vernon also finished with an assist, while sophomore defender Meredith Price (Highland Park, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and senior defender Whitney Marshall (Barre, Mass./Quabbin Regional) eached finished with an assist as well.

The Tigers also saw Marshall collect a defensive save on the evening, on a night when the Tiger defense only allowed three shots, including none in the second half.

Wittenberg, after improving its records to 2-3 in the NCAC and 4-4 overall, hits the road Friday to Delaware to take on Ohio Wesleyan. The Tigers seek revenge from a 2-1 overtime loss earlier this year. The two teams will meet for a 4:30 p.m. start.
