Tigers Top Morrisville State On Senior Recognition Day

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - On Senior Recognition Day, the Tigers sent out defender Beth Vonderbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) in style with a 1-0 win over Morrisville State.

After a deadlock over the first stanza, the Tigers controlled possession for most of the second half but still could not break through. In the waning moments before the end of regulation, Wittenberg finally found the game-winner in the 69th minute when sophomore forward Boo Vernon (Lake Bluff, Ill./Cushing Academy) took a pass inside the circle from sophomore forward Tori Casanta (Mason, Ohio/Cor Jesu Academy) and slipped it into the cage from a sharp angle.

Vernon's 19th goal of the year was enough for the Tigers in their final home game of 2008. Casanta also tallied her eighth assist on the play. Tenacious play from sophomore Marisa Myers (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) helped set up the game-winning sequence.

The regular season for Wittenberg wraps up with a 11-7 record, and a 7-5 mark in the NCAC. The conference semifinal is set for Wittenberg as the Tigers will travel to Wooster for a 2 p.m. game.
