Wittenberg Falls 5-2 At Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio - A 4-0 halftime deficit was too much to overcome as the Tiger women dropped a conference match at Wooster by a final of 5-2. A pair of goals by sophomore forward Tori Casanta (Mason, Ohio/Cor Jesu Academy)sparked a Tiger rally early in the second stanza, but it would not be enough as the Tigers fell to 1-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and 3-4 overall.

Sophomore forward Boo Vernon (Lake Bluff, Ill./Cushing Academy) collected assists on both goals, which came in the 41st and 45th minutes. The second half also saw the Tigers outshoot the Scots and 8-2 and outcorner the hosts by a 10-3 margin, but the large deficit proved too much.

A pair of goalkeepers split time in the cage, with Liana Began (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) getting the start before Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./E. Grand Rapids) played the second 35 minutes. Schaafsma and Began combined for five saves for the Tigers.

The conference road continues for the Tigers as October comes rolling in, and the Earlham Quakers are next up on the Tiger schedule. The Tigers and Quakers will meet at 5 p.m. at Edwards-Maurer Field on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
