Tiger Rally Falls Short Against Conference Rival Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tiger women's field hockey team fell in a 3-0 hole in the first half and were unable to complete the comeback as they dropped a road contest at Kenyon by a 5-2 margin.

Early in the second half, the Tigers started to turn the game around as freshman forward Darcey Caciano (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) put one into the cage nine minutes into the second half off a feed from sophomore forward Tori Casanta (Mason, Ohio/Cor Jesu Academy). Four minutes later, sophomore Boo Vernon (Lake Bluff, Ill./Cushing Academy)closed the gap to 3-2 with her fifth goal of the campaign.

The Ladies put the game away, however, with a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes to stay perfect in NCAC play, despite the efforts of freshman defender Taylor Dawley (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley). She came off the bench in the second half to spark the Tiger defense, which was snakebit in the waning moments by a Kenyon goal that deflected off a Wittenberg player.

The Tigers fell to 3-3 and 1-2 in conference play, as they continue the NCAC season next Saturday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Wooster for what looms as a key early-season conference match-up against the Scots at 1 p.m.
