Wittenberg Shuts Out Oberlin For Key NCAC Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tiger field hockey team wanted a win on Wednesday, having lost to conference foe Oberlin just a week and a half prior. They evened the season series versus the Yeowomen with a 1-0, moving to 10-6 overall and 7-4 in the tough North Coast Athletic Conference.

Tori Casanta (Mason, Ohio/Cor Jesu Academy) scored the Tigers' lone goal in the second half, unassisted from the left side.

But the pace of the game was defensive, as two Tigers put defensive saves in their season statistics. Sadie Mummert (Hanover, Pa./Littlestown) and Beth Vonderbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) stopped Oberlin shots to keep the Yeowomen off the board, combining with goalie Liana Began (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) to prevent any of Oberlin's five shots on goal from finding the cage.

The Tigers have one game left in the regular season, at home against Kenyon on Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
