RICHMOND, Ind. - The name Boo Vernon (Lake Bluff, Ill./Cushing Academy) just keeps coming up when Wittenberg field hockey is a topic of conversation. In a 5-1 win over conference foe Earlham, Vernon lashed out for three goals, tacking on an assist for good measure.
As great a game as the freshman Vernon had, sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Umberger (Concord, NH/Derryfield School) would not be outperformed. She saved nine shots in the game, bringing her to 29 on the season.
Vernon was joined by freshman Hannah Schecklehoff (Blacklick, Ohio/Columbus Schools for Girls) and freshman Tori Casanta (Mason, Ohio/Cor Jesu Academy) as scorers for the Tigers. Assists came from junior Beth Vonderbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame), junior Whitney Marshall (Barre, Mass./Quabbin Regional), Vernon and Scheckelhoff. Vernon's third goal was unassisted.
The Tigers return to Springfield to take on Houghton on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m.
