Tigers Drop Battle For First Place At Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio - A showdown between the top two teams in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings turned into a rout Saturday as the visiting Wittenberg Tigers absorbed a 5-0 loss at Wooster.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the NCAC, snapping a five-game win streak. The Scots are now 9-2 overall and 7-0 in the NCAC.

Wooster scored four times in the first 21 minutes of the game, with Anlyn Addis gaining credit for each tally. The Scots, who outshot Wittenberg 16-6 and converted three of their nine penalty corner opportunities into goals, added an insurance score in the second half.

Wittenberg was led offensively by junior Caroline Mason (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) with three shots. Defensively, freshman goalkeeper Sarah Umberger (Concord, NH/Derryfield School) had six saves and the Tigers were credited with a whopping four defensive saves, including two by freshman defender Tori Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame).
