Tigers Top Ohio Wesleyan For Key NCAC Road Win

DELAWARE, Ohio - Good teams win key games on the road. Teams coming together at just the right time in hopes of a conference championship run dominate those games.

The Wittenberg Tigers outshot host Ohio Wesleyan 12-1, converting one per half into two goals for a 2-0 victory. The win moved the Tigers to 9-4 overall and 7-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, clinching winning records for the season as a whole and in the NCAC. Ohio Wesleyan dropped to 4-6 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

The Tigers pitched a season shutout on the Battling Bishops, adding the 2-0 whitewashing to a 4-0 victory at Edwards-Maurer Field last month. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Umberger (Concord, NH/Derryfield School) was forced into just one save in the game.

Offensively, the Tigers generated plenty of opportunities, in part thanks to an 8-2 edge in penalty corner opportunities. Junior Caroline Mason (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) continued her impressive play with a goal in the first half and the assist on a second-half goal by sophomore Katie Radeackar (Cedar Hill, Mo./St. Louis Country Day School). The assist on Mason's goal was credited to sophomore Whitney Marshall (Barre, Mass./Quabbin Regional).

Wittenberg steps out of NCAC play for a final time in 2006 this weekend as the Tigers road trip to Louisville for a game against Bellarmine College. The two teams will square off at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the University of Louisville.
