Wittenberg Dominates Earlham In 2-0 Win

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers opened the season with a tough series of games, three of which were eventually lost in overtime by one goal each. After getting off the schneid with a 2-0 win over perennial conference powerhouse Wooster on Saturday, the Tigers hit the road and captured a second straight shutout win, this time over winless Earlham.

The Tigers allowed the Quakers just one shot in the entire game, compared to nine for Wittenberg, the three-time defending North Coast Athletic Conference champions. Wittenberg's goaltenders, sophomore Nicole Irvin and freshman Andrea Lauer, did not record any saves in the game.

Offensively, Wittenberg got just enough. Junior forward Katy Barrett scored a goal in the first half off an assist from freshman midfielder Mackenzie Huber. In the second half, junior forward Melissa Jackson scored the insurance goal off a feed from senior forward Julia Wickham.

The Tigers improved to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the NCAC, while Earlham dropped to 0-6 overall.
