Wittenberg Falls In Overtime To Kenyon

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg field hockey team has come so close in 2005. For the second straight game to open the campaign, Wittenberg lost a one-goal overtime game on Saturday.

A week after losing 1-0 in overtime in the season opener at DePauw, the Tigers dropped in a hard-fought 3-2 overtime decision to Kenyon. It was Wittenberg's home opener and the first game in a 12-game North Coast Athletic Conference schedule.

Wittenberg outshot Kenyon 15-12 in the game, but Ladies' goaltender Kimberley Brown was equal to the task with nine saves, compared with seven from Tigers' sophomore netminder Nicole Irvin. Wittenberg scored the first goal of each half as junior Katy Barrett tallied in the opening 35 minutes off an assist from junior Holly McHugh and junior Rachel Dunn knocked home an unassisted score to open the final 35 minutes. However, Kenyon answered with a goal less than three minutes later and then the Ladies scored the game-winner four minutes into the overtime period.

The Tigers hope to reverse their fortunes on Sunday with another home game against Bellarmine.
