Ufer Breaks 20-Year-Old NCAC Record With Five Goals In Win Over Denison

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Senior Blair Ufer recorded a hat trick and then some as the Wittenberg Tigers avenged their only loss of the 2004 season with a 5-0 home victory over the Denison Big Red. Ufer knocked in all five goals of the game for the Tigers, in the process tying a 20-year-old North Coast Athletic Conference record and coming within two scores of the Wittenberg record of seven set by Athletics Hall of Honor inductee Lois Raimondo in 1982.

The Tigers struck first when Ufer scored off a penalty corner play with help from sophomore Rachel Dunn and senior Carrie Happ. With only seconds remaining in the half, Happ fed Ufer for their second scoring connection of the night.

In the second half the Happ to Ufer express kept trucking along, connecting again to put the Tigers in a 3-0 lead. This is when Ufer decided to take it in herself, scoring her final two goals of the evening unassisted before leaving the game to a warm ovation. Happ's three assists also set a season high for the NCAC.

The Tigers are back on the prowl Saturday as the travel to Wooster for another big NCAC match-up. The two teams shared the NCAC regular season title a year ago.
