Wittenberg Continues its Perfect Racord With Win Over Oberlin

The field hockey Tigers started the 2000 season 6-0 en route to one of the finest seasons in school history that included winning a share of the NCAC title and claiming the KIT/NCAC Mideast Regional Tournament. In what is shaping up to be a case of deja vu, the Tigers have gotten off to another great start at 5-0 in 2001, heading into a showdown with Denison, the team that tied Wittenberg atop the conference standings a year ago.

Wittenberg has shut out four of its five opponents thus far, yielding only a pair of goals in an important early-season 3-2 victory at Wooster on Sept. 8. The Tigers' latest shutout win came on Saturday over visiting Oberlin, 1-0.

In that game, freshman Blair Ufer (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) scored her first collegiate goal with just 8:16 remaining in the game.

Sophomore Barb Keselman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and freshman Ciaran Kisling (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) have three goals apiece to show the way on offense. Spearheaded by juniors Rebecca Russ (Lousville, Ky./Sacred Heart) and Heather House (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and senior goalkeeper Georgina Klinzing (Gasport, NY/Royalton Hartland), the Tiger defense did not yield a single shot on goal in a 2-0 win over Rhodes and leads the conference in goals allowed.
