Wittenberg's Winning Streak Increases to Five

The field hockey team ran its impressive season-opening winning streak to five Sunday with a 2-1 victory over NCAC rival Denison in Granville. Juniors Emily Duh (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) and Breinne Esser (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) had goals for the first-place Tigers. The Big Red was a preseason Top-20 team in the coaches poll, as was the Tigers' Saturday afternoon victim, visiting DePauw.

In the win over DePauw, Wittenberg dominated almost from the outset, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime and stretching it 4-1 by game's end. The scoring was spread around to four players, including senior Kelly McMullen (East Amherst, NY/Rhode Island/The Nichols School), the team's leading scorer on the season.

Earlier in the week, Wittenberg defeated NCAC rival Kenyon is a 2-0 shutout. Goalkeeper Georgina Klinzing (Gasport, NY/Royalton Hartland) turned away 12 shots, while freshman Barb Keselman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) tallied a goal and an assist.
