Tigers' Winning Streak Ends With 3-1 Loss to Mercyhurst

The field hockey team ran its impressive season-opening winning streak to six on Friday with a fourth consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference victory over visiting Oberlin, 3-0, before finally cooling off with a loss on Sunday to nationally ranked Mercyhurst, 3-1.

The Tigers played the Yeowomen to a scoreless draw in the first half of Friday's game before blitzing the visitors in the second half to capture the victory. Junior Merrill Ackemann (Norwalk, Conn./Staples), senior Kelly McMullen (East Amherst, NY/The Nichols School) and sophomore Rebecca Russ (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) scored the goals, while sophomore Cara Romanowski (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) assisted twice and junior goalkeeper Georgina Klinzing (Gasport, NY/Royalton Hartland) recorded her second shutout.

On Sunday, the Tigers played well at home again, missing out on some opportunities and eventually falling to Mercyhurst. Klinzing had seven saves in the defeat. And McMullen, who leads the team with five goals and 12 total points, found the back of the net for the Tigers.
