Tom Mescher joined the Wittenberg coaching staff in 2005.

In his long tenure as an assistant at Wittenberg, Mescher has coached several all-conference performers. Including Eddie Vallery, who was a two-time AFCA All-American and the 2009 d3football.com National Defensive Player of the Year.

Mescher is a native of Versailles, Ohio, where he played football under legendary high school coach Al Hetrick. He earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education with an emphasis in social studies from the University of Findlay in 1997, where he also minored in history. While a student at Findlay, Mescher was a member of the Oiler basketball team, president of Sigma Pi Fraternity, and also served as a student assistant coach for the men's basketball and softball teams.

Currently an elementary teacher in the Southeastern Local School District in nearby South Charleston, Mescher has coached softball, basketball, and football at the high school and middle school levels.  He was the Southeastern Trojans defensive coordinator/assistant head coach for the 2001-2003 seasons.

Mescher resides in Springfield with his wife, Kelly, daughters Elise and Isis, and son Ares.
