A native of Dayton, Ohio, Rod Boykin was a four-year football letterman for coach Tepper at the University of Illinois and Boykin was named Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week twice in his career.He played in three bowl games for the Illini. Boykin received an undergraduate degree from Illinois in 1995 and a master's degree there in 1996 as he was a graduate assistant on the Illini football staff for two seasons after his playing days.
