Wittenberg punting record-holder Gary Sitler joined the Tiger coaching staff before the 2014 season, signing on to work with kickers and punters.

In 1976, Sitler broke the school record for single-game punting average by booting six punts for 310 yards, an average of 51.6 yards per punt, during a 1976 game against Eastern Kentucky. Over the course of four years in the Red & White, Sitler would set the career records in punts (177) and punting yardage (6,934). After setting the season record for punting average at 41.16 yards per punt in 1976, it would take the Tigers another 28 years before Jacob Thomas '05 topped the mark.

He was named a second-team Lutheran Brotherhood All-American in 1975 before earning honorable mention accolades in 1976. He was named first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference three straight years (1975-77), and in 1975, he was named the team's most improved offensive player.

Sitler graduated from Wittenberg in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology/earth science and political science. He went on to earn a master of science degree in geology from the University of Idaho in 1980. He is the owner of Eleven Eagles Energy Exploration, which conducts oil and gas exploration and development. He resides in Granville, Ohio.
