B.J. Coad joined the Tiger coaching staff in 2008 as an offensive line coach after wrapping a successful playing career in the Red & White. In 2009, he moved to the other side of the ball, and now enters his third year as a defensive line coach.

During his time working with the defense, Coad helped the Tigers finish first in the nation in total defense and scoring defense in 2009, and in 2010 the Tigers finished fifth in total defense.

Major parts of those strong defenses were 2009 d3football.com National Defensive Player of the Year Eddie Vallery and 2010 d3football.com Honorable Mention All-America nose guard Adam Kattoua. Coad helped Vallery earn All-America honors twice from the AFCA and once from the Associated Press and d3football.com. Vallery broke the school's single-season record and led the nation in 2009 with 16.5 sacks.

Since he began working with the defensive line, Coad has coached his players to seven All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors, four all-region awards and six All-America awards in all.

Coad became a starter at offensive tackle in 2007 after spending his first three seasons as a key reserve. He earned four varsity letters for the Tigers. A native of Cincinnati, Coad graduated from Wittenberg with a degree in history in 2008.
