Tigers Continue Winning Ways with Convincing Win

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger football team played their first home game of the 2023-24 season, a conference matchup against the Kenyon Owls. The Tigers got out to an early lead and never looked back, securing the win 56-17 and improving to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Wittenberg started the scoring just eight minutes into the first quarter with a 28-yard touchdown run from Garrett Gross to cap off a 53-yard drive.

Kenyon answered by kicking a field goal to cut the lead to 4, but Wittenberg came back out on offense to extend the lead once again.

Dean Tate added to the Tiger lead, scoring a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter. Tate capped off the second scoring drive of the evening for the Tigers, finding himself on the receiving end of a Max Milton six-yard completion.

Tyler May and Troy Teepe added a pair of touchdowns extending the Wittenberg advantage to 21-3 and 28-3.

Tate finished the Tiger four touchdown second quarter reeling in a 47-yard pass from Milton, capping off a 64-yard five play drive, sending the Tigers into the half with a 35-3 lead.

The Tigers came out strong in the second half and scored on a Bryce Anderson touchdown run to score their 35th unanswered point since the Kenyon field goal.

Reed Hall and Cleve Benson would find their way into the endzone for the first time this season. Hall rolled through the Kenyon defense at the end of the third for a three-yard touchdown run. Benson capped-off the Tiger scoring effort with a five-yard run to start the fourth quarter, putting Wittenberg ahead, 56-3.

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 23, hosting Alma College for a Noon kickoff from Edwards-Maurer Field.
