Wittenberg Football Rolls Over Hiram on the Road

Hiram, OH – A 21-point second-quarter fueled Wittenberg football to a 38-14 road win over the Hiram College Terriers. The Tigers racked up 419 yards of offense, offering a balanced run-pass attack with 209 yards on the ground and 210 through the air.

The Wittenberg point scoring opportunities came throughout all different phases of the game. The Tigers scored two touchdowns through the air, one on the ground, one on defense and one on special teams.

Wittenberg's first two scores came through the air. Collin Brown found Tyler May for the 32-yard touchdown strike for the first Tiger touchdown. This capped off a six-play, 77-yard drive taking less than three minutes off the clock. Brown connected with Drew Sterett in the back of the Hiram endzone, closing out a 13-play 76-yard drive for the Tiger offense. With 11:22 left in the second quarter, the Sterett touchdown ignited the second-quarter scoring spark by the Tigers'.

Bryce Anderson took advantage of positive field position with 5:33 remaining in the second-quarter. Anderson broke free for a 13-yard touchdown, on the second play of the drive, giving Wittenberg a three-score advantage.

Jordan Stipe provided one last spark for Wittenberg before the half. With less than a minute til the break, Stipe jumped the Hiram passing route, taking the interception back 33-yards for the Wittenberg score.

Wittenberg tacked on a 17-yard field goal from Brandon Goodwin in the third-quarter. Gene Nobles went endzone-to-endzone for the 100-yard kickoff return and the final Wittenberg touchdown of the afternoon.

Brown completed 14 of 20 passes for 210 yards for 210 yards. Finding six different receivers, Nobles led the group with four catches on five targets for 59-yards. Tyler May completed all three of his targets for a team-leading 73-yards.

Wittenberg ball carriers Bryce Anderson and Reed Hall shared the workload. Anderson picked-up 83-yards on 15 carries. Hall racked up 63-yards on 16 touches on the ball.

The Wittenberg defense less than 300-yards of total Hiram offense on the day. Dane Flatter and Cameron Snurr led the Tiger front with six tackles apiece. Flatter tallied four solo takedowns, along with assisting on one of eight Tiger tackles for a loss. Snurr added three solo tackles, including an eight-yard quarterback sack. Anthony Pedro tallied a team-high five solo tackles. The Tiger defense would force two fumbles, coming up with one recovery.

  • Brown ranks second in the NCAC for passing-yards/game, averaging 264.7. Through three games, Brown has completed 48 of 68 passes for 794 yards and seven touchdowns.
  • Garrett Gross and Anderson sit back-to-back in the four-five spot for rushing-yards/game. Ranking fourth, Gross averages 83-yards a game with 166 yards on 31 carries. Anderson ranks fifth, averaging 74-yards.
  • Knock leads the NCAC for sacks/game average, getting to the opposing quarterback at least once per game.

Wittenberg will make their home debut on Saturday, October 1 to host Wabash College at 1:00 pm from Edwards-Maurer Field. The Wittenberg Tiger community will have plenty to celebrate with alumni returning to campus for Homecoming Weekend festivities beginning on Thursday evening with the Wittenberg Athletics Hall of Honor induction ceremony.
